Racist Liberals in Corporate America
This has been a year of truth for many people in America and across the world. From police brutality to corporate racism, it is again exposed that this country can still not rid itself of this sickness. The American success story, underpinned by its economy and the corporate world, is responsible for a disproportionate amount of race-based mistreatment. This year we saw stories like the ABC executive, who said disparaging, racist things about well-known journalists who worked there. We saw an executive at Franklin Templeton engage in racist behavior during a dispute with a man in Central Park. These are people who put their racism into action and weaponize their whiteness to dominate others, particularly black people. These are stories we only hear about; this happens every day.
In the mid-nineties, some may remember the story of Texaco corporate board members calling black people “black jellybeans” and “porch monkeys.” Although these guys may consider themselves conservative, far too many instances of people who think they are so liberal and “better than those racist conservatives” are some of the biggest racism perpetrators. You may recall the story about the Sony executives making jokes about what movies Barack Obama likes, citing all movies with majority black casts. Oh, and yes, we cannot forget the white supremacist who was the LA Clippers’ owner. He told his girlfriend “not to bring black people to his games.” I am sure he is a self-described “liberal with a black friend.” At best, some have described this as liberal gameplaying when it comes to race. Others describe it as the “left-wing of white supremacy.” The casual racists perpetuating mistreatment and receiving unearned benefits as a result.
If you have ever worked and lived-in cities like Los Angeles or New York, you can attest to the blatant white supremacists in your neighborhood or the corporate arena. Racism hides behind political affiliations, religion, geographical locations, and other categories. This is the worst type of racism because it is camouflaged. We need more eyes and ears who are allies to call this evil out when it rears its ugly head.
